I'm a newb at gardening and watermelons. I picked one of the melons today! I thought it didn't look ripe because it was more pink than red but I tasted it and it was still the best watermelon ive tasted! Does anyone know what kind of watermelon I have? It just said "Watermelon" on the tag. lol

O.K. @vfem and @ninnymary this is the orange watermelon. We waited for stripes to darken and bottom to lighten. Tenidrils drying and thump sounding RIPE? :hu It only grew to 10 inches (should have been bigger/, but is huge for us! ) LOL. Here it is cut. It did not look ripe to me. Thought it would be darker orange and black seeds. Is this what your looked like? Not a melon eater I do not know if it was good. DH said it was fine. Very juicy. (We still have 2 more on the vine, should they wait?)

Oh Carol, that looks gross! lol sorry. Vfem's was a much darker orange. I will check to see if she has seeds for sale on etsy. I've checked the Baker Creek catalog and I think it might have been orangeglo. I'll google for a picture to see.

Carol, I just talked to vfem. She works a lot now and doesn't spend to much time on the computer other than work. She is processing some birds tonight and will take a look at your picture. Her seeds are now called orange glo from Baker Creek if you want to google them.

Mary

p.s. do a search here for vfem's "monster watermelon" thread.

Mary, Thanks, I did the search and see the seeds stay pale. And the signs where all there. Do not know why it would be so PALE inside. I think we will let the others hang out on the vine a while longer to see if they get darker fleshed.
