How do you know if your water is getting deep enough in the bed?

I hand watered last year, even though I was trying to setup a drip system, because all the rainbuckets were full so we ladled the water out to each plant. It was better than broadcast watering, but I always feel like I don't know how much water they need!

I bought a miracle grow fertilizer gun thingy a couple of years ago that attaches to the hose, but I don't know how to use that either or how much to use.. and now I have chickens... don't even know if I need it.

wait... 10 mile yard sale coming up... maybe I shoudl put that in the yard sale box!

I was just a a gardening program last week where they reminded us that the most efficient way to water your garden is with a bucket and a scoop and put the water directly on the plant you are watering. That way you are not wasting water that evaporates in the air while you are using the sprinkler and you are not watering weed seeds!

Please now tell me... how much per plant?

Sorry but once they get big you are still gonna' have to check to see how deep the water is going.
