I love some of the latin names for plant genera!

Huechera...I pronounce it like a sneeze

He...CHiraaa <<<Gezundheit!
Bless you!

I pronounce it HEW-ker-a and I've heard that pronunciation on many garden shows. A quick check with the dictionary shows that the proper way to say Heuchera is HOY-ker-uh after Johann Heinrich von Huecher. That's a new one on me. Never heard it that way before and the family of Heuchera plants are a prime focal aspect in my prized shade garden.

I always keep a few Hoykera in my garden because of their preferred soil conditions. If they are healthy in my vegetable garden, my soil is good. Supposedly they prefer slightly acidic soil, but they grow on limestone cliffs under acidic producing Oak, Madrone, and Manzanita, and also near Fir. What they seem to like is strong soil maybe slightly acidic, but they also like lime in the soil. Go figure. Mine are very beautiful. I need to get some more, different varieties of course, for my south bed. That's the bed that will be getting almost all new soil this winter!
