Ah-h-h, @marshallsmyth, the innocence of youth, back in the good ole days.

For a time the second grade boys where I taught were playing a game they made up -- Gay Tag. One person was IT until they managed to catch another player and touch the other player's . . . er. . um. . private parts. Then the other player was IT.

I didn't teach second grade at that time, but the game was reportedly short-lived (I think).

When I first started teaching at this school, tag was a favorite game. Where they got their word for "safe spot" always puzzled me, though. They would run to me and yell, "I on ghoul!" Or "Mrs. B is ghoul!"

It took me years to eliminate that word from playground activities. "Goal", of course, was the word they should have used to tell someone they were safe." I never did find out where 'ghoul' came from, but if you spent time on the playground today you'd hear them shouting "goal".

Tagging is something you might want to do to be sure the person you want to answer sees your reply. To do that you would press the @ key (shift 2) and then correctly spell the name. Your name is Smiles so to get this reply to you I would type @Smiles.

That would "alert" you that you had been tagged -- or mentioned -- in a thread. Alerts are shown at the top right side of this page after your name and "inbox". When you see a number over alert, you know there was some reason an alert was sent. Tagging is one reason for getting an alert.

Is it something important? Probably not if, like me, you read every new post. I have reset my alerts so that I seldom get one. Not a problem since I do read everything. If you tend to skip some posts or some threads you might miss your name being mentioned and possibly miss something you would find important or interesting.

Right, @marshallsmyth, like smog was smoke and fog. That word was coined somewhere in the 50s. Blog would be ? Black fog?

Blog is actually short for web log, or an ongoing narrative posted on the world wide web by a blogger. Yup! A whole new language here on the internet. So often this dinosaur has no clue what words mean anymore.
