Still warm & dry around these parts. I'm hoping we get some of the remnants of Isaac this weekend. The weather guy was saying it's been 80 some days since we've 'officially' gotten an inch of rain. However he also said the longest stretch without an inch of rain was 359 days! It was in 1953. So it could be a lot worse.

Hot and windy, about 92 with a north wind. Cools off nicely at night. I think we are supposed to get some rain from the hurricane this weekend. It is very dry here, and the wind is adding to it. My DH and I went to Tower Rock this evening. It's a landmark on the Mississippi river, a huge rock that sticks out of the water and is only accessable on foot when the river is at record lows. There have been several riverboat wrecks near it, back in the riverboat heyday, and is part of the local lore. Lots of people there since the river stage is at 7 feet. Supposed to rise a little tomorrow, tho. Kinda fun evening. On the drive back we saw a deer, a skunk and a possum crossing the road....not all together, tho.

Still dry, finally out of the 90's. Been some almost moderate gusts of breeze through the trees. Lake is going down. This is northern california in the Mendocino National Forest, Fir, Pine, Oak, Madrone, Manzanita. Getting down into the mid 50's before sunrise.

Quinoa ripening, Amaranth getting there. Some Beans making second flower flush. Watermelon Radishes, Round Red Turnip, and assorted mixed greens planted in July growing lush and fast. Beets, Leeks, and Carrots planted at the same time still slow. Beets and Tobacco planted in May under the started growing already Peas are really taking off now. (Waiting for a friend to come up to make some Greek Beet recipe). Pulled the Coriander today to finish drying for seeds as herb and to grow next year. Stripped a few Quinoa tops today to finish drying. Still harvesting 12 to 16 plates of dry beans a day. (Not necessarily full plates, but that's how I sort and finish them before putting them in coffee cans).

Still plenty of season here. I did transplant one of the bramble berries into the north row today where I took out the Oats. Maybe another one tomorrow. The one today was the unmarked one, probably a raspberry. Next one will be the Tayberry in the smaller pot.

Thinking about a couple of Dwarf Apple trees in my garden. Maybe Dwarf Rootstock and then graft some heritage Apples onto them?

Most of the grafted Grapes took. About 4 are questionable.

Northeastern middle TN is hot, humid and very dry. We had hopes of some rain from Issac but now they are saying we won't get much. Daytime is upper 80's with nighttime in upper 60's. I am ready for cooler temperatures!!

I have the cool weather crops planted/sowed but not much happening except onions sets are beginning to grow, at least the ones the cat didn't scratch up. I think maybe the lettuce, spinach and radish seeds were too old. Found some and decided to try them so may resow soon.

We have been staying in Medford, Ore. (Rogue Valley) for the last 11 days... full sun with temps in mid 80s to low 90s and lots of smoke from 3 diiferent forest fires , from which one depends on what dirrection the wind is blowing from that day. Cough, Cough... :idunno
