Looks good vfem! I wish I could get all fancy with raised beds and stuff , but my garden is big enough that it would cost a fortune. I might do a small one up here close to the house for herbs eventually.

It will be really cool to see how everybody's garden looks in a month or two since we'll have these "baby" pictures as a reference.
My garden is quite small, only what we need. I know I posted somewhere... but all the wood we got was either free, or we bought a stack of 70 untreated 2/4's from the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $50. Even our fence was reclaimed. I just posted on craigslist what I was looking for, and someone emailed me they had one in their yard they didn't like that came with their house. $300 and they even dug it up for us!

If it was a bigger garden, I probably would have done it in stages. That's not saying I won't add more beds next year :D

With my garden I am fortunate enough to have decent soil so I don't really need the raised beds for that reason. I would like to eventually go around the edges of the beds with 4 x 4's or landscape timbers and then put pavers in between the beds. I just think the raised beds look so much better than my "holes in the ground", so I would eventually like to make it easier on the eyes , but things grow well so I'm not in a big hurry. Like you said "a little at a time" - I might get around to it one of these days.:)

I just did it for the simpleness of weed care in the paths, and my soil is all clay and sand. I'm also in a battle with gophers.... so I put chicken wire on the ground under my raised bed to keep them away from my plants' root systems. Growing up we never had raised beds... and my family battled with weeds like crazy in the walk area between rows. I just didn't want to start a battle I couldn't win.

vfem can you take a close up of your potatoes?
I will try to get a closer shot later... I just got home from the feed store and I'm antsy waiting for my chicks to hatch today. I'll be outside with my daughter and nephews for awhile before I come back in. So, soon... maybe! LOL

vfem and jlmann I loved looking at the pictures you both posted! What nice healthy looking plants you have. :thumbsup and beautiful gardens.
I did a big 'no-no' and put my tomato seedlings out too early. My husband tried to warn me, but I didn't listen. Out of 24 plants, I've got maybe 2 that will make it. I know better than to put tomatoes out in April. :barnie:he:hit
So, I will start more seeds Friday after I can get down to the nursery for more supplies. I like the little Jiffy thingies that get reconstituted with water (but I use cold chamomile tea as it prevents damping off).
I did pick up some herbs last weekend that are all doing fine outside. The basil seedlings I started are still in the house and will stay there until the nights are quite a bit warmer! Just finished my third week after hysterectomy and I'm supposed to be taking it easy still. I've got 3 more weeks at home and I'm pushing myself just a bit much.
I've got baby chicks due to hatch in 8 days or so. So if I can't get out in the garden too much yet at least I'll have babies to play with!

I planted 6 tomato seedlings out yesterday, and we are supposed to have cloudy weather all weekend. THat is a rare thing in Colorado, so I am going out now to set out more seedlings.

If I can ever get off of BYC and TEG.

Edited because "tomato" does not have an "e" in it.... Unless it is "tomatoEs"

Ugh, nothing is growing here! ... I had lettuce seeds in the ground and carrot although I think my carrots got washed away. My potatoes were doing fine last time i looked, and i have some onions in... though my bunching onions have yet to do anything. I'm waiting for peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, and cantelope to go in. I have seed flats in a cold frame but nothing has sprouted yet...

This year sucks.

Just know that there is alway another year that you can try it again. Consider this as learning experience and try to figure out what was done different or where the mess up might have been. :rainbow-sun
