With such an expensive plant, most likely only once. Or if I find them on sale and know why they died, then try again.
Did you figure out why they died?
Things that come in cheap packs, I'll keep trying until I run out of seeds and possibly buy a new pack the next year, but no more after that. Carrots hate me.

Oh, Cattails, I keep buying different ones from different places hoping some will grow, live or not be rotted already. I NEED them for my pond...Anyone have cattail seeds for me???
I have them growing wild in my stream will mail you some in spring.
That sounds great! :D

This is where resources like this forum really help. I have discovered that if I have trouble growing it, mostly everybody else does, too. Research helps, too. It took me years and $ to discover that hybrid tea roses are fussy, but I CAN grow a knockout and mini rose with hardly any care at all.
I was thrilled to have a carrot crop in 2012, and to find out that my beloved (now past) MIL could never get them to grow for her.
This year I am REALLY counting my pennies, so I'm not splurging on any plants that I haven't had success with. I will still chase clearance sales. I have an appetite after Rural King gave away hanging baskets with wave petunias and flats with hardy begonias bc they just wouldn't sell in the drought. I still have some of them going inside, after giving away some for Christmas presents. Two of the hanging baskets are hanging/growing petunias inside and I have 3 more empty hanging baskets that I didn't have to buy.
I also like to buy clearance plants with usable containers. I have 50 sugar snap peas started inside in a heavy, plastic, rectangular-ish, 8 inch deep container that I bought with pansies in it last Spring.
RE: trees--make sure that the ground level is the same as it came in the pot. Can't be too deep or out too far, especially since most of these trees come grafted.

i'm a sucker for certain plants. it doesn't seem to matter how many times - when i see a pretty one, i'm destined to try again. i know elephant ears don't do well in my kind of gardening here - but darn it - i love them. lavender, i can't resist. i've about got it down though.
allysum is one of those i buy no matter what. my current attempt is going fairly well - if i can just keep the chickens out.
