Using plain flourescent shop lights works well for growing tomato and other garden plants, but don't forget to change out the bulbs regularly, as they do get dim with age. You can do half or a third of them every 6 months, rotating as you go, and it's not a shock to the plants or your pocketbook. To demonstrate the efficacy of this set-up, I get my phal orchids to rebloom with shop lights, and had an aloe vera bloom a couple of years ago under the lights.:happy_flower
