I had a short visit to a supermarket parking lot, yesterday. Watching people walk in and counting masks is difficult. When they come out, I could see their faces so that's when I count. Nine out of 18 were wearing masks - so, 50%.

Skewing the number ~ again ~ was a young family of a woman with 4 kids. I would guess that the youngest this time was about 7. Why they all showed up at the store, I can't guess. None of the 5 had a mask.

I realized yesterday that my optimistic nature has eroded some. There are fissures and faults that unexpectedly cause a moment of sadness. One of these was reflecting on what I related right here on TEG when I linked a magazine article at the beginning of the year on super moons, the path of planets, and such for 2020. I think that most of my pleasure this year is by focusing on the world very close to my own two feet. Maybe that is much the way it has always been.

since i spend so little time around others i agree with you there. still i consider it worthwhile to wear a mask just to remind me to keep my hands out of my face if for that reason and that reason alone it can save some infections.

So, I could complain.

I wanted a safe country, a safe world. A chance for what I imagined as a normal life. It may have been that I didn't struggle enough for it, but I struggled. And, by luck and struggling and the good intentions of those around me - I have mostly had a normal life.

So, do I have to worry now? Do I have to? I mean about something other than my and DW's normal aging and health in olde age? What if I complain?

What if I try to understand how the lives around me seem to be knocked out of normal and what might be responsible? What thinking and actions and inactions brought us all to this point? What if my genetics aren't of some acceptable sort and I complain?

Would I be made fun of, scorned, injured? Pushed down on a public walkway and left to bleed?

there is no such thing as a sure thing. tomorrow might be asteroid boom or yellowstone going off, or ... it is silly to think that anyone gets out of this without some trials and tribulations, but to me the idea of safety that @digitS' is aiming at is the safety of a person to not be attacked by another person just because of things like skin color, religion, etc. to be detained and then killed while in handcuffs because someone got onto some macho streak certainly isn't what anyone expects of police officers.

in the middle of this viral outbreak i think it just managed to give people a reason to vent a lot of pent up energy too which is likely also why it has gotten so big. is it time? i sure hope so. there shouldn't be a haven for abusive people in the police force any more than there is in the rest of society. we all need to be on the same level and not a multi-class society at least as far as the law and punishments are concerned.

IMO, every person should try to make his world around him better for himself, family, friends and people you don’t know. But to ask the world to halt because of me, isn’t going to happen. Nor should it. Honestly, I have no idea what Steve is getting at.

Agree that violent people (law breakers) should be prosecuted no matter where they are or position. I feel sorry for the innocent people being hurt by rioters with no way to recoup. Over $20M collected for rioters, $0 for those hurt by rioters. Life is crazy. Right is wrong. Wrong is right.

Hi ya-all,
My name is Jim, I've been Annette's other half for the past 64 years and she's asked me to post an update of what's happening.
First like most others everywhere we've been hunkered down because of this "covid19" thingy. Vancouver island got on top of it pretty quick so we only ever had 1 case, and have been clear for some days now.
Annette can't handle the computer right now, she had radiation for brain tumors and it has messed with her eyesight and motor skills.
She can't check her emails so if anyone would care to get a message to her maybe try me and I'll see she gets it.

Annette spent most of last year in a hospital bed, first with a broken ankle then soon followed by a broken knee. She still spends her days in bed totally frustrated.
Annette misses all her friends on the forum and sends everyone a big hug.
