I had one like that arrive here in Spring. Chubby, fluffed up little thing sat near the feeder for about a week. Good thing you had some juice out for her. They're so fun to watch.

There are still some stragglers here, I saw two at the feeder yesterday. Usually when one pokes another at the feeder they buzz off right away, but this one just sat there for a fight. I think he was being told 'come on you idiot, we're late'! :D

So keep an eye out, there's some pokey hummers with a long journey yet.

Hummers do return to the same places every year if they don't get blown off course too much.
I had two of our 5 regular feeders up this spring when one of the regulars buzzed the kitchen window and hovered around where one feeder ordinarily hangs. He seemed to be shrugging like "come ON woman, get with it already!"

I had one that would hover by the patio door when he first appeared in the spring. It had to be the same one for years.

No, bobm. These birds appreciate our offerings, but don't stay around all year demanding we feed them. We are responsible for much of their habitat destruction. Our gifts to them would more properly be classified as charity. Their gifts to us are far more heartfelt.
