I have ripe peas now and dont know what to do other than eat them off the vine or steam them (I dont know about you but that seems pretty ever-day to me) anyone have anything fast and yummy that a busy mom who only has about a 45 minute window to cook supper can feed to some lil monters?

Freeze them, they freeze pretty well and then you will have the rest of the year to enjoy them :)

They're also really good tossed into all sorts of things, mostly late in the cooking -- soup, mac-n-cheese, frittatas or omelets, tuna casserole, or pasta (try: cook some pasta of choice, I like whole-wheat spaghetti, then toss it briefly with quickly-cooked peas and some olive oil and grated parmesan or romano cheese and a lot of black pepper - very easy/quick and very good!). Or any number of other things. IMO they go well with a little cheese in a recipe (cauliflower and peas in a light cheese sauce is really good and easy, just make a quickie little cream sauce or white sauce and grate some appropriate cheese into it and heat through so it melts)

Good luck, have fun, enjoy yer peas :),

Pat, whose sugar snaps are only *beginning* to flower, sigh

Fry some bacon. While that's cooking, chop up some onion. When the bacon is done, drain most of the fat, crubmle thebacon, add the onion, and let it go a couple of minutes till soft. Throw in the peas, add a tad of water so they can steam covered.

Everthing is better with bacon!

Hi sparkles :frow

Eating them straight from the vine is my favourite way of eating them too! I try to eat as many veg raw as I can (but only if I enjoy them that way). I love my food too much.....!!

My chickens adore pea vines & have just consumed a mound of them that I pulled out! I have 5 young Dorking chicks who eat like gannets. They are the fastest growing of all the birds that I have kept & have a lovely nature. The hens lay a lot of eggs & my girl was back laying 6 weeks after hatching and today I found her trying to sit again.....!! :ep I stopped her because I don't think it would be good for her & I have another hen who looks as if she will go broody.

It's great that you are teaching your kids to enjoy the produce you grow for the family! :drool

I made mushroom fried rice. It is pretty quick to make. But I prefer them fresh, as a side to a portabello "burger", instead of potato chip. :D I must like to pair mushrooms with peas for some reason.
