If the day ever comes when I get my "someday" farm these are the first critters I am getting! Remarkable dogs!

That's cute Bay! Great job with her! Our Sadie Jane couldn't be trusted with the chickens. She loves chasing balls and catching frizbees. Chickens would be too much of a temptation for her. As soon as one tried to fly she would probably jump up, catch it and bring it to me wanting me to make it do that again :/

LGD's are phenomenal dogs. I have Maremmas here on the ranch that protect our free range poultry, sheep, goats and calves. They run the stock away from their food and they roar, grumble and charge but have never, ever hurt one of their charges. Once I sat and watched while Bruno threatened 2 ram lambs who were standing in his bowl. He looked like he was all over them and the noise was terrible, but he had raised them and they just stood and looked at him, like they were wondering why he was making so much noise. He finally gave up and laid down, and I had to feed him outside the pen. I never correct them for that, as they have the right to protect their food and it doesn't endanger the stock for them to demand they keep their distance when he eats.

When I have a chicken die or I cull one that isn't worth us eating, I give it to the dogs. They take it out and hold a little wake for about 3 days, and don't allow any of the other animals to approach it. Once the wake is over, they eat him. I have no problems with them distinguishing between a live and dead animal.
