I guess I should have thinned out my carrots a little sooner...

I wish I could grow long carrots like that but my soil has too many rocks in it. I usually grow ball carrots and in some of the less rocky spots I can get way with Nantes half long but long ones like that would come out of the ground forked and crooked.

I love to eat mine right out of the garden ! My little doggies love it as well!. :thumbsup
Carrots are one of the few veggies that all of our dogs eat raw. Other than carrots it is up to eat dog's preferrence, but they don't get many homegrown carrots as they are mostly eaten in the garden. :)

It would be nice to grow enough to freeze them to feed to them later in the season though and cut down on buying them frozen from the grocery store.

I have good soil for carrots. However the very best year I had, I dug a trench, sifted soil back into it, planted, ect. They were enormous and super sweet. Too much work though. I get good carrots with much less work.

Doesn't matter how late or early I thin my carrots - Rusty, the fertilizer rabbit enjoys any that I can't use.

My youngest grandchildren loved the reds last year. I didn't get any seed for them this year. The carrots I have are growing great . . . despite the drought. It seems that I got them planted and through the germination period - the trickiest part for me - before the drought was really bad. Of course, all my watering doesn't hurt.
