That's a great picture Bay! Looks like you managed to get a good crop of taters after all...and a fun day with the grand daughter to boot.

Potatoes are a cool weather crop-doubt a second crop. WHen the vines die back the spuds are ready, although as soon as you see flowers you can harvest some new potatoes. Why the burlap bags seems like a lot of extra work.

We want to try our hand at potatoes this year as well. I think we're going to try dog food sacks again this year... or maybe I'll get some burlap and some small posts from Lowes and make it that way. :)
How will I know it's time to harvest them? If I get them in in April, will I have time to do 2 harvests? (last frost date here is middle of April first frost beginning of Novemeber)

Beautiful granddaughter and dogs. Oh, and nice looking spuds, too.

My grand daughter and I dug potatoes last weekend. I got a respectable return considering that the first planting got drowned. We had fun, got real dirty, played with water pistols and stomped stink bugs. I weighed the potatoes from each bed and got a total of 88 pounds.

Bay, yep, I planted the taters way back then in the berry bed. I've already harvested them as little teeny taters. I used the feeling around under the skirts method...I so love that visual!!! Ha!
