Stay safe on your drive our way Ridge. We've already gotten some rain from Ida. It's been scattered, but some heavy rain came through about an hour or so ago.
Thoughts of you and others in the path of Ida. The hotels here are full of evacuees. The smart thing to do is leave. A Cat 4 is nothing to mess with. Glad you have left for Dallas. Weeks of no power in the heat is no fun. Stay safe my friend.
My cousin left NOLA about 4pm heading up to stay with me. At 2 am I called and she had gotten to somewhere north of Mobile. I imagine that was a hellish drive. Google maps gives 5 hours for me to get to NOLA and she was on the eastern side.
News just showed Grand Isle, it’s all but wiped out. It’s a barrier island, durned if I know why people want to build homes on a flat stretch of sand in the ocean.
It’s like our Boliver Peninsula after hurricane Ike. It was flattened. A friend had a beach house, we had stayed in it before. It was gone, just gone.
And, Wednesday passed - with no message from Ridgerunner. I wonder if he and his wife returned quickly to their Louisiana home, with so many communities without electricity.
How often do we think about the infrastructure that figures so prominently in modern existence? Imagining "camping" as a simplified life doesn't really get us there. So much of what we take with us is not of our making. Our homes, especially, are connected to the larger and complex system.
