If you could grow ONLY TWO vegetable types, what would you grow and why?

seedcorn X 2 (tomatoes and peppers). Those are the things we preserve the most for the winter. Plus with all the unusual varieties and superior fresh taste, they are things we can't replace at the grocery store.

My second choice: onions and potatoes (another winter staple), but we can get decent ones at the store.

heck you might even think into gutter gardening great for limited areas, install 4x4x8 into the ground along the fence line screw gutters on them every 2' apart in height this will give you 3 rows to grow in and it's only taking up 4"x 8" of vertical space + the length of them.....the only drawback is you have to water them on a daily basis or they will dry out. and then you could add silica gel to the soil to retain moisture.
Gutter gardening! You're a genius! That'll be perfect :) As for watering them, I'm on an island just off the West coast of Ireland… It's WET here lol

The idea when I started this thread was curiosity to find out which veg you can't NOT grow, but you all are giving me some wonderful ideas now.

I am with the more is better group. Why ever limit yourself to two veggies? Grow up. Grow succession plantings. Grow in containers. Stick veggies into the flower beds or skip the flowers entirely.
I have some roses here that needs planting out like… a month ago already. I didn't get round to it yet. And I have to grow some sunflowers next year. I love the red variety we get here… I need more space :(

No vegetables all flowers :hide
You'd better hide under the chair, Nyboy! Half of THE EASY GARDEN is veggies and most of us try our hand from time to time at growing them. Come to think of it. . . hey, why is it called EASY? The only easy part of gardening is seeing and hearing what others are doing.

Sumi, do you have a South facing wall on the house? You can add gutter gardening (or other growing up options) on that wall, too. It can be done without actually attaching anything to the house.
