There is a thread on BYC where some clever person started a map. Each member can go on and add their location and see anyone (who's participating) that is near by.
I'll see if I can post the link. Some clever person here could do the same thing... ?

Ohh, that map is pretty cool! Just a short check at google maps told me that whoever created it would have to have the email addresses of everyone who wanted to participate, so they could get invitations to put their pins in. Sounds like a huge project :/ maybe there's another map app that does something similar...?
