Ireland! @sumi ? & others ??

"People should remain indoors for the duration of the storm. All unnecessary travel should be avoided on Monday 16th Oct 2017, while the storm is passing. Don’t travel during the height of the storm unless absolutely necessary. Listen to local radio and national media broadcasts for Met Éireann updates on the current weather situation. High seas are predicted, the public are advised to stay away from coastal areas during this period."

"... So far, a 10-minute mean wind speed 50 knots (93km/h) and a wind gust of 73 knots (135km/h) has been recorded at our automatic station at Roches Point." https://www.met.ie

The wet side of a hurricane is the east side, right?? All of Ireland is east except where the center is coming onshore. Wind

@digitS' We survived :) It was the biggest storm Ireland has seen in living memory, but we did o.k... Lots of damage, three casualties, no power in much of the country, no water supply in much of the country, but we got through it o.k.

Very Good, @sumi !

Thank You. And, Thank Heavens!

I watched a time-lapse of those winds and Ophelia just took off to the north! Ireland seemed to be directly in her sites ...

Finally, a little rain! I know that more wind follows but this 1/4" may have some time to soak in. I'm not sure what plants may benefit this late but a sprinkle every 3 to 5 days wasn't putting anything into the rivers and streams and I was wondering how damaging serious freezing would be to plants in really dry places.

Dry and wet places. The WS precipitation map looks like the oddest thing. The current rainstorm is like a firehouse! Areas with 4" plus are near rainshadow places with 1/10". That's on the wetside of WA and OR. I'm curious if @PennyJo and @AMKuska feel like they are nearly washed away or just caught in some flying droplets.

Inland areas like Wenatchee, badly damaged in recent years by fire, had record rainfall. I hope we do not have reports of landslides.

Personally, I'm ready for winter.

Okay, I know I typed that, but what was I thinking?? Must have been those long hot smoky days...

We got about 5" of snow between yesterday and today, and a little dandruff is still coming down. I was expecting a little skiff that would melt off, but I have a sinking feeling that this stuff will be around until spring.
I postponed my cleanup I had scheduled for today so I could move stuff around and take the snow off haystacks and the little "tent shed" my tractor and quad are in.

I heard that there was little to no snow in town so my cleanup would have been possible, but the situation here had more priority today.
Wah! I wanted more of those dry blue sky fall days until Thanksgiving!

The good news is that I may be able to get the kicksled out earlier than usual. :\

It's falling ..

. but still melting here, @thistlebloom .

Only the lawngrass was covered this morning. It has covered and might begin to freeze on the pavement soon! Yes, we have had continuous snow cover from early November until March. The forecast temperatures make it look like we can get back to some 40°f weather and sunshine by late next week.

Brrrrr, winter is arriving a little early this year. Yesterday there was some very lumpy rain and today although the sun was out there was a north wind that would freeze the ...well you know. Went down to 32ºf in the greenhouse last night so put the heater back in the greenhouse, set on low and set the timer. It looks like we will have another real winter this year. Hopefully this means we'll have a real spring and decent summer.

Good to know! I was planning on going out and shoveling (sweeping is more like it) my 2+ inches of snow so I could get the new iris in that Breck's finally shipped. Maybe I will just go cover that area with some black plastic for now and hope the ground doesn't freeze too hard by then...:fl
Been meaning to ask you @digitS', what is your favorite source for local forecasts? I look at several and try to average what they say but you seem to have inside info!!
