Good shootin' Ally!!
I don't tolerate snakes too well...
This happened last year in my coop, to a nest of duck eggs.

I'm sorry for your losses but happy to hear that you got it taken care of. Hopefully you don't have anymore getting in. It's nice to hear of other women who are able to "hold their own"! I had to kill what I thought may have been a cooperhead that got in with my girls not too long ago...neighbors would have called the cops if I used my gun though lol. I used the only thing closest to me...a rake...it would have been a hoot to capture that moment on video though since I had a heck of a time getting my aim right with it trying to lunge at me while I was hunched over in a not even 4 ft high area!

SweetMissDaisy, I applaud you for catch and release, some snakes are beneficial in the right environment! Unfortunately, I cannot bring myself to attempt to catch a snake...I have caught and released mice though

LOL..I don't know about a reenactment.

Believe it or not, I've never had a mouse problem. I do have a cat who catches plenty of moles, though. I don't even have a barn-we just sit on 1 acre in a semi-rural area. And like I say, I don't normally have a problem with snakes, but I do have a curious 5 year old and wouldn't want him to encounter one that closely.

Farmette, luckily (or maybe not) where I live people don't think much of gun shots because of hunters. Though the only time I had to shoot before it was with a .22. Not wanting to go inside the house, I used my .380 that I carry.Overdoing it, but it got the job done and saved me a trip inside.

Ally don't feel too bad, we just had to kill a black snake last week. Eggs were missing for awhile and then I found it headed through my garden on its way to the coop.

I JUST killed a copperhead a day or so earlier! It was like snake central back there that week. I don't see them come far out of the woods and around my coops often, so this was definitely weird to me. We have PLENTY of voles for them to eat and that's usually where their interest lies.
