It depends on what planting zone you are in.
Do you know the planting zone you are in?

You can tell your planting zone by where you live. Type planting zone into google, look at it and you can tell to some degree, but the best way to find what grows best in your area is to just ask the farmers and gardeners you live around.

When you start a transplant inside depends on what kind of plant it is, your planting zone and how close you are to the last frost. If your really ready to start this magnificent journey, I suggest read read read about soil science and life, different planting seasons, and other basics. Start small and finish big!

I just read a book called "Square Foot Gardening" by Mel Bartholomew, I've never tried this guys method but I am going to practice a couple of things he had to say this season. You don't have to do things how he does it but there is definitely some good basic information in there for you absorb!

Hope this helps, peace!

You can internet search what planting zone you are in. You should be able to find a map with different colored areas that denote the zones. The zones are based on when the first and last likely dates of frost are in your area. Not incredibly accurate, but it's a good start.

You can start planting your seed indoors any time you like...just keep in mind that you can't start to put it outside in the ground until there is no chance of it freezing...so whatever time of year that normally is for you. So if you are not going to be able to plant until May, you might want to wait a while yet.
