I'm trying to get more into tree identification.
I went hiking out in the woods the other day and saw a bunch of these and was curious as to what they were.
I don't have any leave photos to show because all the leaves have fallen off the trees here now and area all mixed and scattered about on the ground.
I'm in Connecticut.
I know there's a plant id section to this forum.
I thought it was more appropriate to post in the tree section.
Can you guys help me out with an id with some tree bark pictures?

I'm only good at identifying wild greens and wild berries. I don't really know my trees.

@theberzh I believe your pics from your walk in the woods are black birch trees. See comparison below.

Enlarge the pics above. Do you see the horizontal stripes between the vertical bark stripes? As well as seeing the trees growing in the background helped to ID . Also differnt light shown on each picture and age of trees.

The trunk on the left is from your pics …>………………the trunk on the right is from a ID web site.

You can easily see the small horizontal ridges between each vertical dark lines on the bark , showing the birch trees signature which is on all birches.

I have several white paper birch trees which shows the common horizontal stripe marks which are the distinguished markings on the bark of birches trees.
