Look up similar models on internet. Sounds about right on price. Things to be careful about that are easy to check.

Tires-worn or starting to crack-another $1000+ to replace.
Make sure engine is cold, does it smoke on starting-if it does, run....
Brakes-do they work, squeal or pedal goes almost to floor?
When was last DOT inspection it had (& passed).

Bottom line, it is a $3000 40+ year old truck, expect things to be wrong with it.

If he can fix it himself and get some jobs to pay for the fix it, then it might be worth the gamble. However, at what point will the jobs be ONLY for fixing it?

Personally I'd love to have a hydrolic trailer for hauling and dumping things here.

He has come a long way. Is dating a woman who husband did hauling in same area. He got in touch with a quarry supposedly they are always looking for trucks to make deliveries. I just don't want to drop $3,000 and have it just rust away in driveway.

1. Does he ever work off what he borrows?
2. Can he fix it himself?
3. Truck more than 40 years old?
4.. Will you be paying for upkeep?
5. Can you afford it
6.You get what you pay for.
