Is This To Good To Be True

Some of you guys know trucks. My nephew wants this. He wants be to front money. He says he will work it off. Seems kind of cheap to me so red flags.View attachment 25013View attachment 25013

these come to mind to ask about:

when was last oil change?

when was it last inspected? does your state require that for hauling?

will he need special license to haul? i know there are things he'd need to know about keeping it clean to not drop rocks/dirt on road here, may also need cover.

oooooowwwwwww all good advice.

probably has high mileage on it which makes up for the price. i would also ask if the engine or transmission was ever replaced to their knowledge. if it had the original engine i would expect it to get a higher price if it was in really good shape for that old vehicle.

Can he go to work for the quarry instead of just be on call for when all their other drivers are out?

Can he partner with his girlfriend's ex? (Okay, probably not.)

It seems very unlikely that he has the resources to hire his own crew.

You know it takes individuals with significant and valued talents and skills to have success on.their.own. It takes more than a useful, 44 year old truck. If it isn't useful and has mechanical problems, it's just another piece of machinery for him to spend $ on and tinker with in the driveway.

It's an old Ford. Unlikely that it has original anything on it, particularly as it is a "working" type of vehicle that has probably seen some pretty hard use. I didn't see the mileage, but it's not really relevant anymore when it's 40 years old is it?

Nothing against Fords, but we have owned our fair share of old ones and have been the ones to replace engines and transmissions. I have only been in a support position while dh did all the knuckle busting, but it ain't pretty.

If your nephew has the skills to do all the necessary repairs, and I predict it will be something monthly, then maybe it's workable.

I see a truck this age if being used daily as a money pit. I talked him into buying a much newer truck. Maybe from a dealer with warranty I told him I would help with down payment.
