It also includes Puget Sound. The Salish Sea was introduced as a concept about 40 years ago and pretty much covers the territory of the Salish people (from what I understand). @MeanCheekThe Salish Sea runs roughly from Vancouver, BC to Port Angeles, WA.

Well that's a rabbit hole! HA! Turns out Puget Sound was named for Peter Puget, second lieutenant in George Vancouver's (British) 1792 expedition of the area. The Salish called it Whulge.Wait! @MeanCheek has Salish neighbors in western Montana!
Also, the northern part of the Columbia Plateau -- Salish people.

gotta admit, Puget is kinda a strange name ... moreover, i suspect that us Americans are not pronouncing it correctly.
Are these close to the San Juan Islands?
