ISO Heirloom Cotton Seeds?

I would really like to swap with someone for a few heirloom cotton seeds- we want to grow some for our hummingbirds this year.

I have a handful of Bloody Butcher corn seed or Birdhouse Gourd seeds, both heirlooms to trade!

I planted Aunt Earleen's Green Cotton, or something like that, since we moved here. I might have the seed somewhere. I planted it just for the novelty, if I still have the seed, I'll send you some.

That might remind me of trying to grow sweet potatoes several times! Dad and DW seemed to think that the effort was wasted. Meanwhile, I was pleased just to have some scrawny roots!

Dad's nephew who worked at a museum, seems like, for his entire adult life - sent Dad some pictures the other day. The subject was my grandmother standing with 4 of her sons. Her oldest son is there beside her and I remembered something that he told me about the family migrating from SE Oklahoma to SE New Mexico in the 1920's.

That they had to wait until the boys were old enough to pick cotton and left OK during the harvest season heading West.

I got them as free seed from sand hill last year I think. I think we may have discussed how we don’t live in a cotton growing area.

I really appreciate the responses so far, and look forward to possibly getting some cotton seeds! We really love our hummingbird visitors every year, so I would enjoy being able to put cotton out for them each year to use for nesting material.

If that is your purpose you don't need anything special. I grew some cotton for my wife a few years back in Arkansas but no longer have seeds. One or two plants should produce more than you need.

Do a computer search and see if you can find a weaver's guild near you. There should be contact and I'll bet a lot of your money and a bit of mine that someone grows cotton and would be happy to provide a few seeds, probably for a self-addressed stamped envelope. You might look through this.

When my kids were little, I planted a row of cotton. I made them chop the weeds with a hoe, while telling them stories my Daddy told me, of him working the fields as a little boy, alongside his Daddy. Then we picked the bolls and they each took a baggie for show and tell.
