When I was in my late teens the movie Urban Cowboy was a blockbuster. Soon after it came out you would see cowboy hats and boots on people everywhere in Manhattan. I had a black hat and grey boots :hide

I was single, in college, had worked for every penny that I had and then had a good job, drove a "Detroit Barge " Ford . I needed some good looking, classy and comfortable shoes to wear to parties, so I splurged and purchased these $ 300 hand made Western / Cowboy boots ... ;)

Oh boy! Are we gonna do "starving student" posts?

... a great morning after. We are supposed to get wiser as we age, you know...

Beer. It's what's for brunch. Okay, I could hardly afford to step into a bar when I was a student. Beers were 25¢!

finding a pair of boots that speak to you.
My shoes speak to me! it's why I say "hush puppies" so often on this thread. I had a fish bowl with my college pet in it!

Good friends and good food sure do help
Wait staff, too! My wife worked as a waitress but wanted to take classes. We handed off the baby in the parking lot. She worked about 20 hrs a week and I worked at the gas station about the same. Several times, my lunch for work was a baked potato with cheese because we couldn't always afford bread.

:D This is fun!

When I was in college, almost every day, I would meet my friend for lunch. I could only afford a hamburger and cup of tea. It actually was plenty. Thirty years later, I can almost taste that hamburger. It was the best hamburger I've ever eaten. Maybe because it was made the old fashion way where the bread was grilled and the burger was simple. I've always wondered if I went back and ate it if it would still taste the same.

It might, Mary. But, sadly - the bar that I could walk to from campus for a beer and burger has closed. Shoot. It hasn't been all that long ago that it was still there. ... wait a minute! I would have a beer and a hard boiled egg for lunch ... couldn't afford the burger o_O.

Want to know how we could afford to have cheese with our baked potato?

Mom paid for delivery of milk and cheese a couple days a week. Thanks, MOM!!! Yep, the box sat right outside the front door and the milkman would make deliveries. No, it wasn't by horse and wagon!
