Itchy Butt (Dog)

Penny keeps licking her butt and worrying it. She is actually too fat to reach it very well, and keeps turning herself in circles on the floor trying to reach it. I tried to get her in to the vet today, but they can't see her till Monday.
First guess would be impacted anal sacs, but she almost has a hemorrhoid-looking thing back there.
Yesterday she seemed to have trouble pooping, and started the licking after that.
This dog ownership business is nerve wracking!

Cucumbers are good for hemorrhoids, topically. I don't know how you'd do that exactly, but I'm sure you could use your imagination...

Nerve wracking for you.....how do you think the dog feels? Poor thing, I hope the vet can help her. I wish dogs didn't lick their butts. Then they always want to come lick us.

Do you have any medical gloves handy? If so, you might take a look and maybe express her glands to see if you can get anything out. I'd also palpate that bulge you see...if it is a hemorrhoid, maybe you could apply some Preparation H to reduce the swelling.

And maybe cut back on her daily rations?

Lucky you are right impacted anal gland that became infected. Sometimes they rupture. She needs antibiotics. You might want to learn how to express them if you have a strong stomach, and foul oders but make you Gage. We do every dogs anal glands before the bath.

The skin is hard around the sore area, and seems to be oozing clear liquid just a bit.
I don't want to try expressing, not knowing if that is the issue, and not knowing how to do it anyway. The vet will probably do it if needed, tomorrow.
Yeah, Bee, I hear you about cutting back on the rations. I have only been feeding her about half the recommended amount, since I realized she was gaining so much weight. I have been cutting back slowly. She seems to have a slow metabolism.

oozing clear liquid is the infection. Normal anal glad execution is dark brown thick and smelly. I know it well.

If you run to supermarket or drug store, pick up a tube of A&D for diaper rash, put that on her bottom warm compresses might help also. Things always happen on Weekends

She seems to have a slow metabolism.

I've always had Labs or Lab mix dogs and they are the same way...they gain weight on air, it seems. Just a little adjustment of the amount in the scoop will either put the weight on them or help them lose it, so I let them put on a little weight for winter and then adjust the amounts to help them slim back down in the spring.

Wish someone would do that for MY daily rations...

Even a warm epsom salt bath on her bottom~have her sit in it~can help ease the discomfort and will draw that infection.
