so this strange plant has popped up amongst my out-cross beans I got from the bean party last year.

It looks like a canna. Since the bulbs aren't usually winter hardy and have to be dug and stored in the fall, it wouldn't be unusual for someone to plant them in the garden. Have you lived and gardened there long?

hosta? looks like mine when they 1st come up. it could have been blown there from seed if you don't break off the flower stalks before the seeds develop.

As soon as I saw someone identify it as a weed I pulled it. I found another one just like it today so I pulled it too. My beds are over run with grass but I have trouble with two spots in the front yard. Go figure.
