It's International Women's Day

What about poll tax? It cost 50 cents to vote, so poor people didn't vote. It was a stinker move by some states in the South, after the Fifteenth Amendment gave the right to vote to all races. The poll tax, coupled with literacy tests, kept many African Americans, Native Americans and poor whites from voting. Sad to say, Texas had a poll tax until 1966 along with several other states.
 
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my mom. She definitely is not a bay mare.....she and I are nothing alike. She is city all the way, I am animals and dirt. :lol:
 
It may have been at the same time as the photograph in the 1st post. It was a women's suffrage parade in the same year, 1913. This month:
