I prefer the square pressed peat pots with a good seed starting mix but I've used the pellets with good success. As Ridgeback pointed out it's best to remove the netting before transplanting. Just a snip with sharp scissors will do it.

I've used those for the past 3 years or so. Never had a problem and my kids love to watch them pop up when you put the water on!

It is pretty cool watching them grow when you ad water! hoodat, I tired the pressed pots with seed starter but they dry out so fast. Some of my seeds have already sprouted and I only planted them on Sunday! 176 tomatoes and peppers. I started marigolds tonight. :)

Whoa Joan! You must be supplying the neighborhood! :p
I always pre-soak the pots before adding the moistened soil, bottom water and keep plastic wrap over the flats until they sprout.
It seems to keep them from drying out pretty well.

I have a big advantage in that I can start my seeds outdoors so I get full sun and don't have to harden them off. I just put my peat pots in a plastic tray with a small hole on one end for drainage. When they start to dry out I just pour a half inch or so of water into the tray and let them soak it up from the bottom. Sometimes I add a small amount of fertilizer to the water. The excess water slowly dips out the drain hole. I eventually start to get salts buildup on the top of the pots but by then they are usually ready fo transplanting.
