How well do they hold up? I used some dixie cups that I let sit in the garden and watered with the hose ( ok not so gentle) and they didn't hold up so well. They did last long enough for my seeds to sprout and almost get their second set of leaves.

I use the waxed cups. They hold up real well and do no harm in the garden that Ive seen.

They are holding up very well.
I can still pick them up without them falling apart.
as you can see in the picture some of my Papaya are setting there second leaves. In the back I planted some Nasturtiums.

As long as it did not come from Hawaii. They Radiate to kill any pests and renders the seed useless.

Take off the pulp coating and let them dry for a day or so then you should be in biz.

There is also a way to dwarf them by taking cuttings from the mother plant. They get huge very fast.

You also need a male and female plant or a morph to get fruit.

ok well most of what we get here are from Mexico so I think I will be ok

how do you know if you have a male or female and can I grow this in a pot ?

I am not doing it for the crop really I just want a papaya tree

living here you need things like that to kick the blues in the winter it is like defying nature to grow tropical things during a PNW winter!
I have really good grow lights actually for my plants and a room by a window where i grow things so I can recreate the tropics and just sit there and feel better after 100 days of rain!

You can grow it in a pot. It grows very fast. The flowers are dif. on the male and female. I had one were the fruit was 15' in the air. But if you grow one then take a cutting from it and grow it in a pot it will somewhat dwarf it. It still will be huge but in a small way.

Update on the seedlings from my junk mail.

I ran out of gallon pots, I need to find a deal on some used pots.

They are growing very fast.
