A lady in this county that I once got hatching eggs form was washing the lunch dishes and looked out the window to see a bobcat kill her rooster in the middle of the day. Occasionally they do harm something.

I see your quandary. I think it best to stay out of it. Your neighbor might not have the heart of a hunter that loves and respects wildlife, but he doesn't sound like a careless idiot either. Just sit back and quietly root for the bobcat.

If it really bothers you, build a ready pile of wood in the firepit. Keep starter fluid handy. If you see flashlights, go start the fire and make noise. Such as a fake stumble and trip followed by loud &*&%$&*&. Any bobcat that hangs around after that deserves to get shot. As for the neighbor, you didn't "see" him, so sorry, didn't mean to mess up his hunt. You just wanted to sit around a fire, invite him to set a spell and tell you hunting stories.

Bay, how many nights in a row do you think a clumsy Nyboy can "mess up" the neighbor's hunt without someone getting suspicious?

And, yes, I too was about to suggest Nyboy include the nosey neighbor wiith info on the bobcat hunt plans.

I like my nosey neighbor.

He once turned in the guy then living across the road from him for spousal abuse. ("Corrections" officer, yeah right!) Those people moved soon after, separately. I hope it stayed that way and that the guy lost his job ... but, I digress ...

A neighbor had a real officer of the law show up the other day, knocked on door. Assault gear, carrying a rifle! Turns out there was a sick deer on his property.

With so much of the environment out of balance, there needs to be some expertise out there. Not just some guy taking "corrective" action. Neighbors showing an interest in their neighborhood environment can be a very good thing. However,, there are plenty more people outta control than there is wildlife threatening.

Nosy neighbor at other house 1 hour north. I have no problem culling animals that are causing problems. This is a residential area no livestock to worry about. A friend of mine a single woman lived near Sing Sing prison, it was a very bad neighborhood, but the only place she could afford living alone ( she didn't want roommate) 2 houses down from her they used to hold dogfights. The backyard had a high stockade fence around it,you could hear the dogs growling and people cheering. This was in Ossining NY she called the police, they told there was nothing they could do unless she gave her name. She didn't feel comfortable but gave her name thinking police would keep it anonymous. The police showed up the next day long after the fights where over, they told the home owner my friend ( gave her name) was claiming he was holding dogfights. Things started happening to her car, she moved away in fear. We think the homeowner work at the prison and had some connection with police.

The Equalizer, A-Team, even Dukes of Hazzard. TV and movies have had fun with that theme. I'm really not into vigilante justice, we are a nation of laws, but yeah, sometimes ........

Your state police organization should have a special division that deals with corrupt local law enforcement officials. Some are more professional than others and some really enjoy dealing with people that gives all law enforcement a bad name. If you are concerned about your state officials the FBI has a division like that and should be pretty professional about how they handle sources. Would NYBOY's situation been of interest to them? Probably not for the dog fights with the local officials looking the other way. That kind of stuff is too common. With that woman being harassed and threatened enough to cause her to move away with the local officials doing nothing about it, probably not but at least maybe.

Would I report something like that? Probably not unless they were really corrupt. They'd probably have to get enough reports before they'd even look into it. They are not likely to use up time and money resources on just one complaint.

I knew the mayor of a small town whose husband ran the local dog fights ... yeah.

This was just before the white supremacist "church" moved into the area. It took decades to more-or-less get them gone.

See what you get with that kind of government?

About 35 years ago, I whent deer hunting in Kings Canyon Cal. on our friend's sheep ranch with over 100 breeding ewes with lamb crops of 160 + per year. They started to loose up to 3-4 month old lambs, first one here and there then increased to 2-3 per week. They found bobcat tracks near the carcasses . First adult ones then increased to adult female with what they thaught was 3 cubs. Again in increase of dead lambs out on pasture as well as in their corral. Started to add up to HUGE $$$ loss. They had killed 3 adult bobcats by the time I came for the deer hunt. One morning at first light I was walking a ridge line, when I spied a bobcat on the other side of the mountain about 100 yards away just sitting down and licking it's paws. I squeezed off a .302 round and it leaped up 10 + feet and dropped dead on the spot. I did a necrosy and found lamb meat in it's stomack. Later I took it to Fish and Game, told them why I shot it... they said congratulations and said that they had lots of complaints of bobcats killing lambs. They weighed the carcass ( sans intestins, liver, heart and lungs) and it came in at 36 lbs. ... the largest bobcat recorded in King County. I had it mounted. So If you see one... more than likely it's mate, offspring, relatives, etc. will soon follow. SSS. Oh yea, I bagged a 4 point buck on that trip too.
When it comes to them killing a farmers lively you really have to get rid of them.

The coyotes have become a nuisance. So I guess I would not complain about his making some diaper. But the Bobcat, who so far has caused no problem=m and is a rare sight in the area should be spared. (Just my opinion.) And I would be really upset with law enforcement that told my name to the person I had complained about! In IA there is a program called TIP. Turn in poachers. No need to give your name. I suppose the coyote is considered a varmint and there is no set hunting season and they can be legally shot anytime. You might want o check with your DNR. To see what the laws are for coyote and bobcat.
