Smilesjr, I didn't know it was good for arthritis. I will tell my friend who has knee and joint problems about it. What other health benefits does it have? So 3-4 oz. is what we should be drinking?

I'll need to look for that Synergy next time I go to the store. You guys are opening my eyes to other stuff. Thanks

Mary

Now I can't say that it will work for everyone. All I can say is that my arthritis seems to be less painful when I drink my Kombucha on a regular basis.

What are the " intestinal benefits" ?

As I understand it our digestive system relies upon good bacteria (live culture) in our intestines to efficiently break down the solids in our food and extract nutrients. It helps our digestive tract to be more regular as well. The big buzzword these days is PROBIOTICS and Kombucha is chucked full of those good bacteria and flora. People have known and used Kombucha and many other naturally fermented dietary suppliments for hundreds of years. Probiotics has become the "in thing" over the past 10 years among the more affluent people in the USA. Rural and "down home" folks have known this for a long time.

Penicillin and most other antibiotics kill this live culture in our systems and it is always good to try to replace it as soon as possible after antibiotic treatment.

Have you ever had beer, wine, champagne, cider, root beer, ginger ale, vinegar?

Touche @Smiles Jr. :D

I have tried beer, wine and champagne, though truth be told I don't like any of them. Not for creepy mysterious fizzing, but because they taste awful to me. (Then again, cilantro tastes like the smell of the garbage dump to me, so it's probably just me!)

I'm pretty sure vinegar must have been in something I've eaten in the past, though I don't cook with it. The smell just makes me think its spoiled.

Cider, rootbeer and ginger ale: Maybe when I was a kid? I don't remember. :-/

The friend that makes mine has lupus. She was on 22 pills and not sure what they are for, but some autoimmune and also thyroid. She has been drinking it for 3 years, down 50 pounds, down to I thought she said 9 pills, lupus in remission and thyroid medicine was reduced. I am not sure if the thyroid medicine was stopped. She drinks a lot. Last year it was 3 glasses and now more. I drink 2 glasses a day and sometimes 3. You have to drink water after you drink it or you should and you have to start out small and build up. It can cause like a detox feeling, so 4 oz is about right to start with.

Although I've made several healthy changes to my lifestyle over the year, I'm pretty sure I can thank the kombucha for its intestinal benefits, and I have also noticed less sinus trouble and definitely less arthritis (I know--I'm too young for arthritis...but for old sports injuries.) Could be the coconut oil too, I dunno.

No wonder I am getting buzzy. I drink 16 oz., not 4. :D I mix mine with a little gingerale to cut the tartness.

I make mine in a warm, dark place. I think it just brews faster that way. The temp of your house definitely affects it.

Luv my kombucha. DH does too. Slowly, but surely, I'm steering him toward some healthier habits. ;)

Journey I have a client that gives her dog coconut oil for arthritis, swears by it.

It's supposed to be good for so many things. I think that would definitely be worth a try for the dog too (although changing her food helped dramatically!)

Thanks @Smiles Jr. ! I'll start with a plain batch before trying berries or herbs.

My dad occasionally works for somebody that owns a brewery and he brings back many bottles of kombucha as payment. I don't know how long it took them to perfect it (whatever it is, brewing proccess or combo of fruits/herbs) but that stuff is great! It's delicious and has a nice fizz to it, my parents liken it to champagne. I'm going to say that out of all of the flavors I've tried so far - blueberry lavender is the best. It sounds like it's going to be a long time before I brew anything that good though.

OH! I also buy this grape-flavored kombucha from the local krogers that has chia seeds in it. (Very energizing!) A company out of CA makes it. Very expensive but I'd say worth the money. (Next time I go I'll buy a bottle for anybody interested in company name.)

Yes, kombucha drives me crazy (in a good way)! :D
