I'm on year 3 with my asparagus. I hope to get enough to eat for supper. I need more! It is very easy to grow. Give it some compost, water and that's about it.
Did you put hardward cloth underneath? Gophers by the 100's here.
@Lickbranchfarm for your asparagus bed would highly recommend making it out of block,asparagus crowns will produce for between 10-15 years. yellow pine might last 3 years before replacing.....
heres mine it's about 14 years old. they are slowing down only picked about 10 lbs last year.....

in past have been a bible banger against pressure treated lumber.. have researched the lastest chemicals they use as well researched web sites on using in vegetable raised beds... all i can find out is the higher content of copper has been added so the recommend not to plant root veggies with in 6" of the wood.. of course you would not be organic.... look around on the web and you make your own decision ..
needless to say i will be slowly switching all my beds over to pressure treated..
