I am a struggling small business owner. All the compassion in the world isn't going to make money fly out of my ample butt. If I can't take care of myself and my family (including my disabled adult son), all three of us become a burden on others. I can't take care of us by going in to debt paying more than I can afford for help, so, for now, I just don't hire anyone.
Compassion doesn't pay my vendors, the state sales taxes, the payroll taxes, unemployment insurance, county use taxes, county sales tax, workman's compensation insurance..... you get the idea.
It is not a lack of compassion to take care of yourself and your family. Like I said earlier, if people didn't do that they become a burden on someone else. To imply there is something immoral about that is really something I can't even begin to understand.
Every ride in an airplane? In an event of an emergency, put your own oxygen mask on first. If you don't, you pass out and become a burden to the rest of the passengers.
