Speaking of the motion detectors with tails: do you all get complaints from the neighbors when your dogs bark a lot at night?
We have been pretty lucky here with out many incidents of noisy neighbor dogs, but the last few nights, a dog not real close has been barking incessantly. I am not sure which back yard it is coming from, but I have an idea. I have never called a neighbor in the middle of the night telling them their dog is barking, but it is a possibility.

This might me sound like a neighborhood Gladys Kravitz ...

A good neighbor works swing shift. Home late every night ... wouldn't you know it? The guy next door to him got a Redbone Coonhound. That dog barked continuously! Not barks ... bays.

He asked me to sign a complaint. The guy on the other side of him signed it too. A 3rd neighbor refused to sign but called the humane society, claiming that the dog was mistreated. I don't think that was true - it was the people in the neighborhood who were mistreated!

Within days, the dog had a bark collar on.

This was back when I had better hearing. I got a phone call from the county prosecutor's office. What did I want to do? The dog owner contested the complaint.

I said I'd go with whatever the swing shift guy decided ... the last I heard from the authorities, pretty much the last I heard from that dog, nearly the last I heard ...

I know my dog has a barking chain when she goes out at night. She doesn't bark during the day unless there is good reason -- of course a squirrel in the back yard is a great reason -- but at night she barks to a nearby dog who barks to another who barks to another and back to her. I don't know how long this serenade might go on, because I don't have her staying out. The longest she might bark is the length of MY trip to the bathroom.

@so lucky, I have been that neighbor that called the barking dog neighbor in the middle of the night and I will darn well do it again too.
If they can't train their dog, maybe I can train them.

These aren't LGDs btw, just dumb dogs that like the sound of their bark.

I'm not bothered in general by barking dogs, they can be a necessity in the country, but it's not hard to tell a "I'm warning you intruder" bark from a bored "hey... hey ...hey... hey..." bark. I always wait until after 11 to call, so I'm within the noise abatement rules. If there even are noise abatement rules out here. Beats me. I just know that if their crazy dumb dog is still barking at 11 it's high time for them to figure out that the neighbors don't like it.
