If you are asking about Sweet Meat, Territorial Seed describes it as "One of the heirloom treasures of the Northwest." Where I bought the seed, it was listed as Oregon Homestead.

If these varieties that we plant are different species, seed from several squashes can be saved each year. I was in trouble with La Madera because it immediately crossed with others. (Those bumblebees do a job on squash.) The seed company stopped offering the variety.

Yes, I'm growing the Oregon Homestead line of Sweet Meat as well. It is an heirloom variety of C. maxima. I got my seed from Restoration Seeds. I plan to try to save seed from it this year. I grow multiple varieties of C. maxima, so I will have to do some purposeful hand pollination. Butternut are C. moschata, so if that's the only squash you currently grow then I think you should be fine saving seed from both. Although I'm pretty sure that I've read that any of the cucurbits can rarely cross pollinate, so I'm not 100% sure.
