I got 2 early girls and a Juliette tomatoe that is supposed to grow well in my area.
Also got 3 Fresno Chilies and 2 poblanos. Each 4" pot was $1.39! All of the peppers have 2 plants each.
I normally pay $3-4 each.

Nice! That's a fantastic price too. I've grown Juliette before.
How are your little seedling peppers doing?
Will you be planting these out soon, or is it still too cool?

Of course, the Early Girl does well in your neighborhood, Mary. It is America's #1 garden tomato! I was surprised to learn how popular it is in the South -- Then, I realized that tomato season may be very short where the plants stop producing because of the heat.

Generations have now grown up with the idea that the EG is what a tomato from the backyard should taste like. I think that's fine. It isn't a shipping/supermarket tomato. That's how Peto Seed came up with it in the first place.

Juliet should do well for you. One of the few varieties I've grown where small fruit was breaking down the plants because of the weight. Why grow varieties that struggle to provide a half dozen tomatoes? Why grow varieties that sicken easily? Healthy and productive (and a good price).

I have ordered a black landscaping fabric that the farmer who runs a non-profit farm in Alameda uses and recommended to help keep soil warm for heat loving plants. Hopefully I will get it in a week and I can then plant these babies.

Steve, my jalapenos usually do ok and last year I had an eggplant called "millionaire" that did really well. I can't wait to see what difference that fabric makes.

Thistle, my s h i s h i t o peppers are a couple inches tall and their second set of leaves are starting to form. Some of the cells on the 6-pack have 2 plants so I will carefully separate and pot them up tomorrow. Starting things from seeds sure is a pain in the butt!

Mary looking at the top of your chair, I have the same set. I bought it over 20 years ago, still looks great. I painted it once just because I wanted a color change. i think it will last forever!!!

Well we have good taste Nyboy! :D I think my set is about 15 yrs. old, can't remember. It's the table with 5 chairs (because there were 5 of us at one time) and a chaise. Never been painted. I don't think my husband would want to hear that. As it is he thinks he has too many project already especially with the hens. He just finished an addition to the coop and repainted. I'm in the process of painting my outdoor furniture. Too many things to do.

Richard, I went from 4 hens to 7. I'm sure going through those feed bags a lot quicker. My husband just told me that I only have 1 bag left. I usually buy 4 bags at a time for a total of $100. I don't like spending more than that at a time!

Mary, Wifey, Nicole, asked me to make feeders for her out of 3" PVC pipe. These standing pipes 3 f them have a couple ells on the bottom to the hens can only eat the food and grit that's in the ells.
What a saving in food, they wasted so much before.

Can you picture what I just described? If not I can have the girls take a photo.

Have a great day.

Richard
