@Larisa , how in the world did you find TEG??? Most of us came from Backyard Chickens. You must have taken a different route ... thru the Alps? ... across the Bering Sea?
It's simple! The world has so many routes! You go direct, right, left, sometimes a little bit ago. But if you have to come somewhere, be sure to come.
Or "- Well, if you do not care where to go to, you do not care which way to go ...." (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll)
This road began in Germany. I was very fascinated by the German "gingerbread house" and flowerbeds.
I wanted to know how they grow it. So I decided to look for a German forum for gardening. But I have not found a good German forum for me. Then I went to an international forum. A bit boring ... And the Germans were not there too. But there was an American who invited me here. I can not mention the name, because I do not know how he would react to this. But I'm glad that I'm here. I know many forums for comparisons. Here forum, which is to be protected. Even if I will not be here, I want to know that it exists. :):):)

I have to disagree with your professor Steve. What a depressing attitude toward life!

Life is full of all those components of pain and joy and even apathy.
But it is joy that, for me, defines what life is about. And I can find joy even in the deepest sorrow, but it does take some looking for at those times.

Yes, @thistlebloom you are right JOY should define life. And like you I can find joy even in the midst of pain.
On Dad's passing in late November 2 years ago. Only a few days before his and Mom's anniversary. Our joy was knowing that they where together celebrating the anniversary in Heaven. <3

Here's a joy, in a drought:

Massachusetts' Waterfalls :)

I once told you that I find the sound of waterfalls to be irritating noise. I can take the hearing aids out or just turn the volume down. Visually, a joy ...

One of my most fun vacations was a "waterfall tour" of North Carolina. My DH and I mapped out a bunch of well-known and not-well-known waterfalls, and systematically visited them. My favorite was half way up a mountain, by foot, where we found a hatching of tiny salamanders, only about 1.5" long, if that. (Oh, and the waterfall was beautiful and remote. No tourist spot, for sure)
Those larger waterfalls can be annoying, Steve. I hear enough roaring on a daily basis inside my head. And I also wouldn't want to live near a trickle like a drippy faucet.
Quiet would be nice, I think.
