Who else here loses tools (and other things) on their own land or in their own houses (or out buildings)? My most recent loss is a pair of pruning shears. I've retraced the last times and places where it was used, but to no avail. Finally I gave up and bought a replacement, but still hoping to stumble upon the lost pair. I hate losing things!

Yep. Been there, done that.
Then, you find them and realize that it made some kind of sense Where you left the tool.
All that I have learned is that when hand tools made or broke your business, people would carefully store their metal tools in oil to keep them from rusting.
Don't buy oil! It is highly likely that you already have 10W30 that you bought for your mower that has expired and that works Just Fine.
When I find my lost padlock keys, which I lost while working in the south pasture 3 years ago, I will let you know!
Since then, I have put together one springlock with all padlock keys and at least ONE FULL SET of same in another and inside location.
I think if you start analyzing how you transport your tools, you will discover where you left them.
For instance, I usually have some kind of bucket and I have had My Fiskers pruners land there before.
Sometimes our habits land our tools in the garage or in the basement.
The padlock keys really puzzle me bc I tilled an entire area the day the They disappeared. :th

usually it is Mom who loses her clippers and we eventually find them in a bucket of weeds or back in the weed pile where she dumped the bucket of weeds. for me i try to always keep my tools in the bucket i'm using or in the same pocket or place in my room so there's only a few places they should be. once in a while Mom has moved them and then i can't find them and have to ask her where she's put them... the most frequent problem i have when weeding is finding my weeding knife simply because the handle is brown wooden and blends in really well with dirt and plants. i can look right at it and not see it until i'm looking more from the side... D'oh!

I went through a phase where I wrapped the handles of some tools in reflective tape and spray painted others with florescent paint, but the tape tended to peel off, sometimes leaving a sticky residue, and the paint reacted badly with some of the non-slip handles of others. I wish they made more tools in bright colors.

I cleaned the roof and gutter of leaves, yesterday afternoon. Good time to do that – sunny and no wind :).

One roof valley collects leaves and to clean it, I use the roof snow rake with its 15 foot handle. Storage for the roof rake is under the low shelf, beneath the garage work bench. I pull the rake and 3 piece handle out and get the job done.

Putting the rake back in a slightly different position, I couldn't push the rake far enough back. Down on the knees, I look under the shelf and pull out a dusty bucket!

During farmers' market days, I had lots of buckets. I know why this one didn't join the stack. It's square and others are all round. It has 2 flower vases inside and a pair of those hand shears that one might use trimming lawngrass.

I don't remember the bucket or the shears! The shears are obviously used and I think that this all must have come home together from some thrift store. How many years ago???

On the way out of the garage, I see the leather gloves in the carport that I misplaced after pruning rose bushes the day before! After finishing the pruning, I thought for sure that I had set the gloves down in the garage while pulling something out of the freezer to take back in the house. I looked everywhere in the garage for those gloves! Apparently not crawling on the floor looking under the bottom shelf past the snow rake ;).

You're having better luck finding things these days than losing them.

It seems like the tools made years back were built way tougher and better!

I just thought of a kitchen tool example of how things built in the older days were better. My mom has a garlic press made out of a really sturdy metal. That thing is still going strong when I go visit her and she was using that tool when I was little. I have been through a few garlic presses that were less that best.

Great stories everyone of lost tools. Many of the same tools lots over the years. And to add other items found.
I found a pair of sunglasses, gloves, seed packets, pots, a pitch fork lost in a huge shrub, water bottles, doggie toys not to mention a pair of underware not mine . 😱 There were tractor parts, broken chains and oh a few tires someone had nonchalantly dropped off in the brambles. Ya never know what’s out there ‼️
