Marshall- I keep going back to the idea of you meeting them in a parking lot. May I assume that you will be moved out of the house and loaded up? Boy that seems suspicious in regard to the check. They will have nothing to lose with you out of the place. Maybe they can come to your house because you want a "walk through." If you are fearful is there a sheriff that can be with you? Or at least a couple of big guys? Do you have anything in writing concerning the severance? Or is this just out of the goodness of their hearts? If they are having financial difficulties where is this generous check coming from? Isn't this the start of the big season? Not to say they won't make up infractions if this gets ugly. Know too much? Financial irregularities? I am concerned for you.

if you don't hear from me. My laptop works on wifi things at places like mcdonalds and coffee shops, so you all SHOULD still be hearing from me at least on occasions. I'll make sure to try and be on late on the 1st or the 2nd of April.

Me thinks they might not even show, and I'll get no severance pay, and that may actually be the safest scenario.

Safe maybe... UNFAIR very much. :(
It is too bad we all live so far apart or we would ALL be there for a show of support. :hugs Hang in there.

Marshall, if at all possible try to have a friend near you and somebody else further away that can video the meeting. Nothing may happen, but you may need evidence if it does.
I'm hoping and praying for your safety and their keeping their promise.

My brother went through something very similar. He wasn't promised severance pay, but was due a bonus check. His bosses (an HOA) wanted to meet him in a parking lot as well. He knew what was coming. They sent some pee on weasle to deliver him walking papers, and no bonus check. They want to meet in a parking lot to make sure you are off the property when they screw you out of the severance pay. That way you can't take vengence and trash the place, and if you go back, they'll have you arrested for trespassing.
Stay safe, my friend. Good things come to good people.
