I hope this is interesting even just as a diversion from punitive measures for you, NyBoy ;).

This is not quite Washington apple country, although early settlers seemed to think so. A result, there are evidently the remnants of some very olde orchards hereabouts:

Great article Steve goes against belief all apple trees high maintenance.For over 100 years trees where not sprayed or pruned and still produce apples.

Interesting article. There are lots of ancient looking apple trees over in Farragut state park, I wonder how old they really are. A panel of deer tasters gives them a hooves up. Maybe this year dh can boost me up above deer reach and I can sample some for myself.
