Seedling pots are made from a plastic cup. Four drainage holes are burned with a soldering iron into the sides of the cup, leaving a small reservoir for water. A coffee filter is placed in the pot to stop soil from falling out of the drainage holes, and the filter contains the soil and roots, which is an aid when transplanting.

I wondered how you got that perfect round hole burned in the cup. You don't seem to be the kind of guy with a handy cigerette hanging off your lip........

I'm doing the same thing with my used K Cups from my Keurig. They're my new seedling starting cups, at least for the plants that don't have a long root system that requires a bigger cup. For the bigger root systems, I'm going to try your idea! Thanks for the great tip.

A 16D nail works just as well in a styrofoam cup. Been doing this for years.

I was doing the tp tubes.... I hate using plastic or stryrofoam because of enviromental issues... total guilt! lol

They sure are the messy option though. :p

I have a yogurt habit. And, I have to have the individual yogurt cups. Which means I have lots of seed starting cups. :) So many, in fact, that I'm gonna cut the bottoms off half of them to stretch the cups upward when the time comes to transplant the tomatoes to larger containers. Just finished the greenhouse, so I'll be starting everything this weekend. Eeee! :)

My office has a Keurig coffeemaker thing. With all the teeny plastic cups filled with coffee. Can you start seeds in coffeegrounds? 50/50 Coffee and Coconut Coir? Because I'll start saving them, if so.....

I would think coffee grounds alone are too acidic, but I'd have to do research. I save the coffee grounds for the compost pile though. :D
