One of the prime viewing areas is in southern Illinois, so there is a big hype going on to capitalize on it, in the Carbondale area. I fear, as Larisa says, that we will have a heavy cloud cover.
But Franklin, NC would be more fun. We could all go digging for gemstones after the eclipse.

I was thinking about my environment.

Here, late August and early September is the least likely time to have rain.

See why this is a good place to grow plants for seed ;)?

Carbondale?

North Carolina has ..

. Moonstone deposits. They formed during an earlier solar eclipse and an earlier Moon! Yes, the intense sunlight on the "darkside" of the Moon, in combination with the gravitational "void" from the Moon shadow on the Earth - caused that Moon to exxxplode! It rained down Moonstones.

And, if you don't believe that such an event will result in Armageddon in The Great Smokies then Hell's Canyon should be a good choice ... That dipsy-doodle on the OR/ID border is the place! The Snake has been impounded and damned ... It is known as "Farewell Bend" for everyone traveling on the river and the path of destruction. Good Heavens! This kind of hype is tooooo easy!
