I guess the great mother upstairs thinks I need more live creatures to care for. Last night as I was going though kennel making sure all dogs where settled in, I caught movement by one of the food bowls. I had to really look for a second because it was bright yellow, a poor parakeet was tiring to eat dogfood. It must have come in when the doors where open earlier, it must have been exhausted, tame or frighten stiff because it let me pick it up. I put it in a puppy cage with a bowl of water, it was a long day and I was exhausted and wanted to go home. I started feeling bad for the little guy, instead of going home drove to supermarket. I knew they had a small bird section in the pet isle. Good thing about city is many places open 24 hours. I filled his bowl with seed , made a quick found parakeet flyer and did mass fax to all animal hospitals near by. Fingers crossed his owners are looking for him. Last thing I want is another live creature to take care of.

You are sweet to care for the bird. I am sure someone is missing him/her. If no one comes forward a new home should be easy enough to find.

they are nice birds when tamed. i had some when i was a kid. my mother didn't like them, especially my last one that was the best trained since it outlived all the others but was a constant companion. you can train them to talk too. i never got any of mine to say anything though.

Keep it under your hat Red. Just got back from pet store, new cage and supplies. Was told by guy in pet shop, people let them go all the time when they realized how noisy they are.

LOL we are not surprised! Maybe keep it at work. You are there most of the time. Maybe a customer will express interest and you will be able to rehome it soon ;)

People are so thoughtless. To let a parakeet go, out in the wild where survival is zilch to none is just mean.

My Daddy caught a parakeet once, as the wild birds were attacking it. The wild birds had chased it to the ground and were dive bombing it. It lived with us for years.

At least that poor hungry parakeet knew where to go. You are just a big bowl of mush. But we won't tell anybody, your secret is safe with us.
