I have been playing around with the idea of getting a rabbit for manure. last week I even posted on rabbit section of sister site BYH. I just got a call from client informing me, Sat she was dropping of her sons pet rabbit. He is not taking care of it, she told me do something with it. Guess i am getting a rabbit.

Rabbit poop is the best. Usable right away. I adopted two of them at our last place. One died of fright and the other died of heat even tho I had a frozen liter bottle of water in his hutch.

One is a great start. If you don't choose to eat your bunny offspring, one may be just right. You don't need to add pounds of "Kicks" around your plants -- just a few at a time once in a while.

Take care that you don't take the word of your local "human growth and development" (sex-ed) teacher when sexing your rabbit, should you get more than one. . . just saying!

@Nyboy Do not be hard on @Smart Red they are very hard to tell apart when young. DH raised rabbits and we missed several times. And a word of caution, Rabbits can be cantankerous, they can and will bite and scratch. Watch those hind feet when you pick it up.

I think the best way to keep them is to put the hutch OUT of the sun in the summer. You can move hutches and putting it on the north side of your house of a building in the summer would significantly reduce the temperature. I kept rabbits when I was a kid.

Red did you make a mistake ? I have read rabbits handle cold much better then heat. A different client has a ac for their rabbits hutch.
Me? Make a mistake? Could you be thinking of another rabbiteer who killed off their bunny? I think mine died of old age.

You are correct (me, too) when you suggest rabbits handle the cold well. After all, they do have fur-lined skin. It is also true that rabbits can succumb to excessive heat. I'd never tried putting an ice water bottle in with Rusty, but I did have a fan blowing in the coop (along with good ventilation) during the summer to keep him cool as well as having his outside cage on the North side of the coop.

I once got a male rabbit the sex-ed teacher found nearly drowned floating down stream. I already had a male rabbit -- a gift from a student. Within a few short weeks or so, I found three tiny rabbits in my males only cage. The sex-ed teacher was red-faced, but refused to take responsibility for his mistake. I raised the litter.
