I was just wondering out loud about that very thing to my DH the other day, as we have one chicken who's yolks are very large. The egg is not large, just the yolk. Since (I think) the yolk becomes the chick, and the white is the nutrients, would a large yolk make a large chick, or would a large white provide more nutrients to produce a large chick?

share please... what, exactly did you do??? A hard boiled egg inside the 'loaf'????
It is very easy...

First take your meatloaf mixture and put a layer on the bottom of the pan. at least 1/2 inch or more.
Then put the eggs in a line end to end in the center of the pan on top of the meatloaf mixture.
Then fill in the remaining meatloaf mixture to completely cover the eggs.

I try not to overcook the eggs when I boil them, I cook them well enough to be able to peel them.
(which is NEVER easy with fresh eggs!) That way they don't get overcooked and rubbery while the
meatloaf is cooking.

See very easy!

sorry... I broke the quote thingy

I know that there have been multiple threads on hard boiling eggs... but I just can't seem to figure out the problem. I can almost squirt mine out of the shell... ?
Enough salted water to cover
Ease them gently into the BOILING water
BOIL for 10 mins or so
Cool QUICKLY
crack, peel - shell falls right off
?

Boiling eggs always seems for me to take about twice as long as what anyone suggests. Wait for the water to boil first, and add salt to the water?

Maybe those were some of the things my mother and sisters were doing while I was getting shushed out of the kitchen when I was a kid! :p

Mothers, never shush your sons out of the kitchen! Show them how to boil eggs and cook a chicken! Thank you :p

I bet Monty never got shushed out of the kitchen when he was a kid!

I put a fist full of sea salt in the pan - then fill with 2-3" water (whatever it's gonna take to cover the eggs). Disolves the salt a little bit faster.
While it's heating, I go on to something else - like mincing up the onions and such or whatever it is that I'm making the eggs for.
When it's boiling like crazy, I use a big slotted spoon to gently lower them in the water.
BTW - I've made bazillions of hard boiled eggs prior to having access to FRESHly laid eggs... but when I started using fresh eggs, I noticed that they rattle around in the water. Jumping and bobbing and tapping around in the pot. Now before anyone gets all freaked out - NO, there are NOT chicks in the eggs. The eggs on my counter are usually only 3-4 days old. Does anyone else notice this?? It's weird.

I was just looking at that cackle hatchery site, (this time i was ready for the rooster crow, but it scared the berjeebers out of my abyssinian), at the rare breeds, and seems each breed makes unique eggs.

Can it be you have unique eggs from chickens, with unique characteristics, densities and such? I saw one breed makes small very dark eggs, a couple lay colorful eggs, some make white eggs. Maybe there are other things besides color and size. Or, maybe it is just the freshness that lets them do that, or, maybe it's simply because they have not been driven around in a truck. Any of my guesses close?

My friends tell me I boil my eggs wrong they theirs always has shell stuck and they chunk it out. I just put water on to boil, get the eggs out and put them in, in 20 minutes I go back, dump them and while hot under running water I shell them (very easily I might add). LOL
