I don't really like them, so don't dig up, they winter fine here.
That is actually funny. So if they die out you wouldn't care! So of course they survive and you have very harsh winters. The last time I forgot to bring them in mine all perished.

Having worked as a florist for many years, they always remind me of funerals. But that pretty well goes for all large flowers. Football mums...Yikes!
I don't normally grow glads because I would not be on the ball enough to get them staked or tied up.
I bet if they are planted in a protected area, such as a south or maybe east flower bed, they would have a chance of surviving. I know I wouldn't be on the ball enough to dig them up in the fall.

When I had the best glads, I planted them in a 4' X 8' raised bed. After planting I set a piece of fencing with 4"x2" openings staked three-ish feet above the bed. The glads grew through the wire and stayed straight and tall while I was able to weed beneath the wire so the bed stayed neat as well.

I never gave a thought to mulching the bed with a goodly amount of straw and have the glads as perennials. Being in a raised bed, digging the corms wasn't all that hard.

Mine are in raised beds also. I will be bringing them in and am hoping I don't knock them off in storage . LOL
