the one my dh has you can set the sensitivity so it can detect certain metals too. there was a TV show that got my dh interested in it, can't remember the name of it now but thought it was on Netflix-probably a History or Net Geo program.

anyone use them? Is this something that sounds fun but you quickly grow tired of? Certain things to make sure it has if buying. Brand or model you like? Big R has them for 1/2 off.
I've had a White's for several years now and use it now and again. I used it for detecting relics and have several from the Battle of Bennington, which was really in New York. I have a musket ball with deep teeth marks in it, so I guess someone was biting the bullet. There are also several silver coins in my find box. If you plan on using it in the local park, forget it. people toss trash all over and it seems they just throw pennies away. The White detector is expensive, but it can be set for, or to ignore, various objects.

A friend's son bought one and brought it to friend's house and went through the yard and found $70 worth of old coins. This was back in 1970's. My brother and I thought that was wonderful so we bought one and went looking and found a few older coins like 1910 dime and 1925 quarter. I can't remember all, but it was fun. Like digging for potatoes, you do not know what you will find. It was just hard to find places that was not private property. We were around 20 years old, so young and looking for our fortune. Lol. We needed money later on and sold it, so we never found our treasure.

Jack mentioned how people just throw pennies away.
Here's my amusing thing to do with pennies.
Most years I spend the month of Feb in Fla racing and watching races. Now most of the racing goes on in the evening so we need to find entertainment during the day.
My favorite thing to do is get a couple of rolls of pennies, go down to some beach that you can drive on.
Ride down the beach and throw pennies, as hard as you can, down into the sand. None will go under the sand but they will scatter over the area.
Next we back up to the sea wall and watch our seeded spot. Along will come an old gal with her metal detector and start hitting the gold mine.
Some one will see what going on and encroach on her claim, then its on, she'll use that detector as a weapon to fend off the claim jumper, all the while the skinny old dude is cashing in on her find.
Great winter entertainment.

Zephyrhills, Orlando Speed World, New Smyrna Beach, Volusia County, East Bay, Bubba Raceway and some other places that have slipped my mind.
I've watched at Daytona and spent time there with the Wallace bros. and Ken Schrader.
A few years back I worked for Kenny Wallace and Schrader.
