"... the property owner informed me that one of her 3 cats had been shot."
DISGUSTING!!!
Even the dog that sometimes runs and is vicious would only get shot with my bebe gun, just enough for a vet bill.
I would NEVER shoot a cat!!!
Don't shoot the dog with a BB. Leave something tasty loaded with laxatives outside when you see him about. Hopefully in the late evening so he can crap in their home.

Well, it has been conclusively proven that moth balls don't work. :( DW had placed some old papers in the shed (to be used for fire starting) with a package of moth balls on top of the pile. Yesterday I went into the shed to put away some slop buckets... the pile had been chewed up, and the moth balls dumped onto the floor. The papers had only been in the shed for about 2 weeks! As much as I hate to do so, it looks like I will have to bait the shed, if I intend to store anything chewable there. I miss using strike-anywhere matches for starting the bonfire; but given the possible consequences if mice were to chew on them, my shed is probably better off with safety matches. So far, the mice show no inclination to chew on those.

Moth balls will work but you have to use enough that you will smell them 10’ from building. Ag used a stinky insecticide to stop them from eating the seed but they still use whatever for nesting material. Only sure way is poison the beggars. Maybe heating the building to 70 degrees and turning snakes loose might do it. I’d use poison.....just sayin....

This is what I use, much easier than turning up the heat and stocking up on snakes.
